The Hawkins Stainless Steel pressure cooker body and lid are made from food-grade, 18/8, non-magnetic, superior stainless steel (AISI Grade 304). This stainless steel grade contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel, providing greater anti-corrosion resistance and the ability to better withstand the various acids found in many foods such as fruits, meats, milk, and vegetables. As one of the best quality stainless steel grades used for making cooking utensils, Type 304 stainless steel has great strength, ensuring that the Hawkins Stainless Steel pressure cooker will provide many years of faithful service.

The 18/8 superior stainless steel lid ensures the highest levels of hygiene and durability. The pressure cooker body and lid are made of food-grade, superior stainless steel for maximum hygiene and durability. On the outside bottom of the pressure cooker, sandwiched between two sheets of stainless steel, is a core of 4.1 mm thick aluminium, which spreads heat quickly and evenly, preventing hotspots and ensuring that food will not burn or stick. The external base is made of AISI Grade 430 magnetic stainless steel, allowing the Hawkins Stainless Steel pressure cooker to work on both gas and induction cooktops. The extra-thick base stays flat and never bulges, and can be used safely for light and deep frying before pressure cooking.

The unique Hawkins Pressure-Locked Safety lid ensures that when there is pressure inside the cooker, the lid is pressure-locked like a modern jetliner door and cannot be opened until the pressure has fallen to a safe level. The lid handle bar is so attached to the lid that there is extra space for deliberate 'play' or movement, ensuring perfect sealing of the lid with the rim of the cooker body. The fixed sturdy pivot assists the self-centralising lid in locking securely and safely in place, ensuring a steam-tight seal, and is designed to prevent undue pressure on the plastic handles.

The New Improved pressure regulation system regulates pressure better, cooks faster, saves more fuel, is easier to insert and remove, and reduces sprouting of frothy foods (such as dal). The automatic Safety Valve is positioned such that, if it operates, the steam and food are deflected safely downwards. As the lid fits from inside, the gasket does not get rubbed sideways, cut or scraped every time the pressure cooker is opened or closed, and its exposure to food acids is minimised due to the protection given to it by the rim of the lid.

The stay-cool handles are designed to provide optimal comfort and protection from excessive heat when the cooker is in use, with the metal screw and rivets used to fasten the handles safely recessed to limit the chances of your hand coming into contact with hot metal during cooking. The unique curved body of the cooker makes food easy to stir during the cooking that is done prior to pressure cooking, helps prevent the food from sticking or burning, and makes clean-up easy.

The AISI Grade 430 magnetic external base of the pressure cooker means that it can be used on induction cooktops, as well as on gas, electric, ceramic and halogen cooktops. The 5.8 mm extra-thick base always stays flat and maintains proper contact even after heavy-duty use.

A cookbook or instruction manual is supplied free of cost with each pressure cooker, providing valuable and practical information on the proper use and care of your pressure cooker, as well as a variety of tested recipes. The Hawkins Test Kitchen writes instructions for the user, develops recipes and solves customer problems, testing products from the consumer's point of view and sending prototypes back to the R&D Centre for improving the design.

Hawkins models certified by UL (Underwriters Laboratories Inc.), an independent worldwide safety analysis, testing and certification organization, carry the UL mark stamped on the product external base and printed on the product carton, indicating that they have been evaluated and their factory operations have been subjected to surveillance by UL field representatives worldwide.
